In higher mileage engines, any sludge that may have formed from using conventional oil may be plugging up a would-be leak. If that sludge gets removed by the synthetic, the seal which had already failed will start to leak. I'd see if you can get details regarding what seals may have been replaced recently. All the front oil seals should have been replaced during the 60k maintenance, and the rear main seal may have also been replaced along the line. If all those have been replaced, I wouldn't expect to see any problems from switching to synthetic.
